BCCI ASSIGNS ITS FOOD WEALTH COMMITTEE TO MONITOR THE STRATEGIC STOCK OF FOOD COMMODITIES

In line with the coordinated efforts to ensure adequate food stock and uninterrupted food supplies in light of current circumstances due to the coronavirus pandemic, the board of directors of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) spearheaded by Mr. Sameer Nass directed its Food Wealth Committee headed by Mr. Khalid Al Amin to monitor the strategic stock of food commodities in the local market.

Accordingly, the committee visited a number of markets including Al Jazeera Supermarket, Midway Supermarket, Lulu Hypermarket, Al Osra, and Carrefour, where it met with officials from these markets, examined the available stock, and inspected prices.

In this regard, Mr. Al Amin commended food suppliers and merchants on their cooperation and adherence to the directives of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism. He affirmed that the strategic stock of food in Bahrain is sufficient for 6 to 8 months, and called people to refrain from panic-buying and hoarding. He also reassured that food shipments via Khalifa bin Salman Port are ongoing in addition to airlifted consignments of food on the national carrier 'Gulf Air'.

Mr. Al Amin reaffirmed the vigorous cooperation between the committee and food suppliers, wholesalers and retailers, and stressed on the consolidated efforts of the committee and the various relevant government bodies and authorities to ensure the well-being of the citizens and residents and overcome this hardship.
