Bahrain amends law, allowing GGC citizens to own properties in designated areas
MANAMA — Bahrain’s King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa on Tuesday issued a decree, amending a 1999 law allowing nationals of the Gulf Cooperation Council to own constructed properties and land plots in the kingdom, the Bahrain News Agency reported.
The prime minister and ministers, each in his jurisdiction, shall implement the provisions of the law, which shall come into effect a day after its publication in the Official Gazette, the report added.
The amended law has already been endorsed by the two houses of the Bahraini parliament — the Shoura Council and Council of Representatives.
Once the law comes into force, the GCC citizens will be able to own the properties and plots of land in the areas specified as part of the urban planning through legal means.
Following the issuance of relevant decrees by the Minister of Justice and Islamic Affairs, rules will be set for its regulation by the supreme committee for urban planning.
Besides Bahrain, the GCC comprises Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait and Qatar.
